Dear Worldwide Friends of KPC,
After careful consideration and concern, H.E. Jetsunma Ahkon Lhamo Rinpoche has decided to temporarily close the Kunzang Palyul Choling temple in Poolesville, MD. This decision is for the protection and welfare of our wider community in response to the global spread of the Coronavirus.
As we undergo various changes within KPC to keep the public safe, all of which will be outlined below, KPC will be offering many different ways to stay engaged, feel supported, and be able to make a difference even as we enter our own “social distancing” phase.
Due to the risk of Coronavirus, we are asking the general public not to enter the temple, but instead enjoy and explore the many sacred Stupas and our 65-acre Peace Park across the street. There are several different altars where people are welcome to make offerings, both in front of the Stupas and statues, as well as an altar that will be set up in front of the temple.
KPC’s 24 hour prayer vigil, unbroken for 34 years, will still be going strong, with prayers continually being made by dedicated monks, nuns and lay practitioners. Participants will be following protocol informed by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) to minimize any risk of transmission. Volunteers for our aviary will still be attending the rescued birds, while also following CDC guidelines.
